Install IPTV on Android TV — Complete Guide 2026

Android TV and IPTV: The Ideal Combination

Android TV (and its successor Google TV) is the most widely used streaming platform on modern TVs and dedicated boxes (NVIDIA Shield, Chromecast with Google TV, Mi Box). Its direct access to the Google Play Store makes installing quality IPTV apps straightforward.

Our team tested the setup on an NVIDIA Shield Pro, a Chromecast with Google TV HD, and a Xiaomi Mi Box S 2nd generation with an active IPTV X France subscription.

Requirements

  • Device: TV with built-in Android TV (Sony, Philips, TCL) or Android TV box (NVIDIA Shield, Mi Box, Chromecast with Google TV)
  • Minimum speed: 10 Mbps (HD) / 25 Mbps (4K)
  • Google account: required to access the Google Play Store
  • IPTV X France subscription: M3U URL or Xtream Codes credentials

Method 1 — TiviMate IPTV Player (Recommended)

TiviMate is the best-suited app for Android TV with its remote-optimized interface and advanced EPG.

  1. From the Android TV home screen, open the Google Play Store.
  2. Search for TiviMate IPTV Player and install it.
  3. Launch TiviMate and select Add Playlist.
  4. Choose M3U URL and enter the URL from your IPTV X France confirmation email.
  5. Optionally, add the EPG URL to display program schedules.
  6. Press Add Playlist and wait for the channels to load.

Enable EPG (Program Guide)

In TiviMate settings, go to Playlist → EPG URL and paste the EPG link provided by IPTV X France. The guide updates automatically every 24 hours.

Method 2 — IPTV Smarters Pro

  1. Open the Google Play Store and install IPTV Smarters Pro.
  2. Launch the app and select Add User.
  3. Choose Via Xtream Codes (recommended for stability) and enter the server URL, username, and password.
  4. Confirm and wait for the channels to load.

Method 3 — XCIPTV Player

XCIPTV is popular for its multi-screen management and compatibility with multi-connection subscriptions.

  1. Install XCIPTV Player from the Google Play Store.
  2. Open the app and tap + Add Account.
  3. Enter the server URL, Xtream Codes username, and password.
  4. Select your profile and start watching.

Recommended Network Settings

  • Connection: Ethernet recommended for 4K streams; 5 GHz Wi-Fi is acceptable
  • DNS: Set 1.1.1.1 in Android TV network settings to avoid DNS blocking
  • Auto resolution: Enable automatic refresh rate switching in Settings → Display → Resolution Mode

4K Picture Quality Optimization

To get the most out of 4K Ultra HD channels, make sure:

  • The HDMI cable connecting your box to the TV is certified HDMI 2.0 or 2.1
  • Your TV supports HDCP 2.2
  • Your connection speed is stable at 25 Mbps minimum
  • HDR10 or Dolby Vision mode is enabled on your TV if supported

Troubleshooting

Google Play Store Cannot Find the App

Some countries or Google profiles may limit the visibility of certain apps. In that case, download the APK directly from the developer’s site (IPTV Smarters, TiviMate) via a browser on your Android TV, after enabling unknown sources in Settings → Security → Unknown Sources.

Buffering in 4K

Increase the buffer size to 10 seconds in the player settings. If the issue persists, try switching to the software decoder instead of the hardware decoder (Hardware ExoPlayer).

Tested Compatible Android TV Boxes

  • Xiaomi Mi Box S (1st and 2nd generation)
